Chelsea v Burnley: Clarets can catch Blues cold

Published:

Chelsea open up their 2017-18 Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues are as short as 1/4 to pick up the three points against a Clarets side who bagged just seven points away from home all last season.

Antonio Conte’s men have had a rough summer, though, with frustrations in the transfer market underpinning murmurs of discontent within the squad.

Having lost midfield lynchpin Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, along with Diego Costa on his way out the Stamford Bridge exit door, there are worries Chelsea won’t be the same beast this season.

Eden Hazard and Tiemoue Babayoko miss out through injury while Victor Moses is suspended. Alvaro Morata – currently not fully fit – may be forced to start with Michy Batshuayi failing to convince up front.

Simply put, we really just don’t fancy them. Burnley, if nothing else, are dogged and one of a few teams you’d like to avoid when things aren’t going your way.

The Clarets drew 1-1 at the Bridge back in the 2014-15 campaign and can pull off something similar here.

They’re 14/1 to nab a shock win, and while that’s worth a few bob of anyone’s money, we’d advise a little more caution.

Burnley at 16/5 on the Double chance market looks big. Backing it means you get them to avoid defeat.

We reckon this one could be a low-scoring affair so backing either the 1-1 scoreline at 10/1 or 0-0 at 14/1 could pay for your Saturday night pints.
