Brighton v Manchester City: Pep’s boys to shoot down flock of Seagulls

Manchester City open up their Premier League campaign with a trip to newly-promoted Brighton and Hove Albion, live on BT Sport.

The Citizens look quite short at 1/3 when you consider this is a potential banana-skin fixture.

Interestingly, though, of the promoted teams to the Premier League, the Championship runners-up tend to do worse on the opening day. Those particular sides have averaged just 0.7 points from their first league game.

Pep Guardiola has been incredibly busy sorting out his defence over the summer, too.

Having purchased what feels like about 12 different defenders, we reckon City might not be able to plug that leaky defence.

Chris Hughton’s side lost just three league games at the Amex Stadium last season on their way to promotion and if they are going to catch their opponents cold, it’ll be this game.

There’s no recent head-to-head record to go off with the last game between these two ending in a 2-2 draw back in 2008.

At 17/2, the Seagulls look a big price to cause an upset but are you really willing to back against Pep Guardiola’s charges?

The City squad looks formidable right now and the likes of Aguero, Gabriel Jesus, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne will be chomping at the bit.

It’s hard to look past either of Aguero or Jesus at 3/1 and 16/5, respectively, as First Goalscorer.

Guardiola will be looking to make a statement on the opening day so backing Man City to win and Over 3.5 Goals at 2/1 looks a bit tasty.
