Top Trio: 3 horses to watch out for at the July Festival

The July Festival is nearly upon us with a stellar line up of stars primed to compete in the likes of the July Cup, the John Smith’s Cup, and the Bunbury Cup.

Ahead of the action we’re tipping up three horses that are likely to shine over three days of cracking racing.

Caravaggio

Aidan O’Brien’s three-year-old has set tongues wagging with an unbeaten six-race record after hurtling to a win in last month’s Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.

A ferociously quick sprinter, the Ballydoyle colt will go head-to-head with James Fanshawe’s The Tin Man in a highly anticipated duel in the Darley July Cup on Saturday.

A 5/4 favourite, he looks hugely backable.

Rajasinghe

There’s no let-up for Richard Spencer’s starlet, Rajasinghe. After his heroics at Royal Ascot, the two-year-old is back in action in Thursday’s July Stakes.

The Choisir colt set pulses racing with a thrilling win in the Coventry Stakes last month and will go for a three-from-three win record here at Newmarket.

He’ll go head-to-head with another exciting sprinter in Tom Dascombe’s Finniston Farm but at 2/1, he’s probably worth a punt.

Wuheida

Now this is an interesting one. The unbeaten three-year-old was heralded as a one to watch last year with two big wins at Newmarket and in the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac at Chantilly.

An injury forced the the Godolphin-trained filly out of runs in the 1000 Guineas and Oaks but trainer, Charlie Appleby, has her fit and firing again – we just don’t know if it’ll be on all cylinders.

As the 4/1 second favourite, it’s definitely worth a bob or two of anyone’s money.
