The Suggestion Box: Here’s who Tottenham should buy this summer

By and large, things are very good indeed for Tottenham Hotspur right now. Successive finishes in the Premier League’s top three spots have been complemented by a hugely exciting style of football.
But with a first league title since 1961 still eluding Mauricio Pochettino’s side, there’s work to be done this summer – especially with the club yet to make a single signing.
Here’s where we think Spurs could and should strengthen before the window shuts.
Defence
Obviously the main gap at present is at right-back, following Kyle Walker’s mega-money switch to Manchester City. Kieran Trippier is ready to take over that mantle if needs be, but Poch could – and should – look for more strength in depth.
On the other-flank, they have one of the best left-backs in the league, in the shape of Danny Rose. But again, some cover – while not a priority – wouldn’t go amiss.
However, with Kevin Wimmer also agitating for a move having failed to establish himself as a first-choice centre-back, Tottenham will need another option in the middle of defence if he exits.
Replacements: Joan Foyth, Matteo Darmian, Lukasz Piszczek
Midfield
Few buys from last summer have disappointed more than Moussa Sissoko, whose dismal displays hindered an otherwise strong side’s title ambitions. A more mobile, motivated and combative presence is needed in the heart of midfield.
With talented youngster Harry Winks also out of the picture for the time being with a long-term injury, Poch could well add more than one new midfielder to his ranks.
Replacements: Ross Barkley, Manu Trigueros, Kevin Strootman
Forward
Probably the strongest area on the pitch for Spurs, their frontline is the envy of most Prem sides…but it isn’t perfect.
Vincent Janssen has failed to cut the mustard as an impact sub so far, and it isn’t too hard to find a player with proven Prem and European experience in that mould.
If they are to challenge seriously on multiple fronts, another right-winger could prove very useful, with youngster Marcus Edwards the only current understudy to Erik Lamela.
