Pogba and Smalling favourites to succeed Rooney as Man United captain

Wayne Rooney - Manchester United odds

Paul Pogba is the most likely player to wear the captain’s armband at Man United when Wayne Rooney leaves, according to the latest odds.

The bookies have already suspended betting on Wazza returning to Everton this summer, and they’ve been busy pricing up his replacement as skipper.

Right now it’s the £89m man who is most likely for the role at 7/4, ahead of Chris Smalling (5/2) and Ander Herrera (7/2) respectively.

Meanwhile, it’s unlikely David de Gea (8/1), Marouane Fellaini (9/1), Phil Jones (10/1) or Antonio Valencia (12/1) will be wearing the armband on a regular basis at Old Trafford next year.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “With a Rooney exit looking nailed on, it’s time for United to find a new skipper – and it looks as though their dabbing dynamo will be given the responsibility of leading the Red Devils to glory as soon as Wazza walks.”
