Odds slashed on Tottenham signing Everton target Sigurdsson

Published:

It seems pretty clear that Gylfi Sigurdsson will join one of Tottenham Hotspur or Everton this summer, but which one?

The Toffees seemed to be winning the race for the Swansea City star, so much so that our traders pulled the market six weeks ago.

But amid reports that Everton and the Iceland international couldn’t agree wages, no deal has yet taken place.

And since then, Goodison Park boss Ronald Koeman has wasted no time in exploring other creative options, snapping up Ajax ace Davy Klaassen for £23m.

Everton remain 4/6 favourites in the betting to land Sigurdsson, but they face renewed competition.

Tottenham have been rather quiet this summer, and have yet to make any big-money moves.

Once out at 12/1 to land Sigurdsson, they’ve been cut into 13/8 second favourites.

And the main reason is quite simply, a not-so-cryptic clue on Twitter.

It’s five years since Sigurdsson first joined the White Hart Lane outfit, and the club have seen fit to remind their fans of the occasion.

Now given that the midfielder didn’t exactly thrive during his first spell in North London, this strikes us as a little odd.

Unless of course, there’s a secondary motive for the post, and Sigurdsson is in fact on his way back for a second chance in the capital…
