Neymar addition would be next level signing for PSG

If rumours are to be believed, Paris Saint-Germain are in advanced talks with Brazilian superstar Neymar.

It remains to be seen whether it will actually happen but, if it does, it’s a game-changer. It’s a next level signing.

In the era of the super club, no player at the top of their game has willingly left Barcelona or Real Madrid – it just doesn’t happen.

Yes, players have left the Spanish giants, but generally because they have been out of favour or needed game-time. Think Angel Di Maria’s move from Real to Manchester United, for example.

PSG, though, have been on a mission to accumulate the best players in the world for a number of seasons now.

Their policy revolves around cherry-picking the best players from Europe’s top clubs outside of Barca and Real – Edinson Cavani from Napoli and Thiago Silva from AC Milan being prime examples.

The Parisiens – up until last season – have dominated domestically, but struggled to break the glass ceiling of the Champions League. Last season’s incredible capitulation at the Camp Nou again showed a seriously soft underbelly. In fact, they have yet to even make a Semi-Final.

Would the addition of Neymar make the difference in their quest to conquer Europe’s elite? He’d certainly help. Of that, there is no question.

As last season’s first leg 4-0 thrashing of the Catalonian giants showed, though, is that their attack is already formidable.

Their mentality – and possibly their midfield and defence – remains in question.

Does signing one of the Blaugrana’s key men help with that? It’s hard to argue it does, frankly. It certainly weakens one of their major rivals, but more will be needed.

The transfer in itself, though, will still set a benchmark – the Spanish cartel of Real Madrid and Barcelona can be messed with. They won’t like that one bit.
