Meet the England U19s aces on course for Euros glory in Georgia

England Under-20s lifted the World Cup last month, while the Under-21 side reached the Semi-Finals of this summer’s Euros. So, can Keith Downing’s England Under-19 side follow in those impressive footsteps at their European Championships in Georgia?

Having breezed past Bulgaria with a 2-0 win in their opening Group B game, the Three Lions are looking good so far. But with the likes of Germany, Portugal and the Netherlands also involved, they face some stiff competition in the coming games.

So, who are we tipping to be England’s key men as they look to lift the trophy in Tbilisi later this month?

Aaron Ramsdale (GK, AFC Bournemouth)

Nobody can get past England’s agile stopper right now, with Cherries man Ramsdale keeping four consecutive clean sheets for the national side, including a hugely impressive shutout away to Spain in a 3-0 qualifying victory.

An extremely impressive organiser, he’s the glue in the Three Lions backline, with the side winning six of the last seven games he’s started in. Combine that with his increasingly imposing presence in the box, and it’s hard to believe the Bournemouth stopper is only 19-years-old. A bright future beckons…

Jay Dasilva (LB, Chelsea)

The Blues’ captain for much of the last Premier League 2 campaign, the classy Camden-born defender proved he’s already got all the attributes to succeed at senior level, with a highly impressive loan stint at Charlton Athletic during the latter months of the 2016-17 season.

A confident and composed passer of the ball with boundless energy, the 19-year-old also offers a real threat coming forward, as he proved with a couple of well-taken goals for Chelsea Under-23s last term.

Ryan Sessegnon (LM, Fulham)

While he operates mainly as a left-back for the Cottagers, the 17-year-old remains the jewel in England’s crown – and arrived in Georgia off the back of a stunning campaign for Fulham, in which he recorded seven goals and five assists.

Possessing fantastic footwork, a stinging long-range strike, pace and an intelligent reading of the game, he’s in the very top bracket of talents at this tournament. Having already netted with a lovely strike past Bulgaria’s Dimitar Sheytanov in the opening game of the tournament, you can expect more of the same to come.

Marcus Edwards (RM/AM, Tottenham Hotspur)

The Spurs ace netted five times in his previous 10 games heading into this tournament, as well as chalking up three assists. So, having done the business against the young talents in English football, can he match those feats in Georgia?

We fancy he can, especially on the back of recording a goal and two assists in his first competitive game for the Under-19s back in March, running the show against Belarus. And while the opposition here is tougher, the versatile midfielder could still play a huge part for Downing’s men.

Next up for England? A meeting with the Netherlands on Thursday afternoon. Win that, and they could start daring to dream…
