Man United and PSG locked in battle for James Rodriguez

It’s one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer, but where will James Rodriguez end up?

The Colombian endured another difficult campaign at Real Madrid last season, and couldn’t force himself into the first-team reckoning under Zinedine Zidane.

Indeed, the Real coach left Rodriguez out of the squad completely for their Champions League final victory over Juventus.

Liverpool had been the early front-runners, and in late May a deal seemed all-but done, but talk has gone cold on Merseyside.

And it’s the Reds’ rivals Manchester United who now lead the way.

The Red Devils need a man to fill Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shoes, and have yet to acquire anyone other than centre-half Victor Lindelof from Benfica.

And according to reports in Spain, Old Trafford is the only destination Rodriguez is interested in.

Diario Gol claim the striker will give Zidane and Real a headache by sticking around at the Bernabeu – thus reducing his sell-on value.

Rodriguez joined Real for a whopping £80m in 2014, but has failed to meet the expectations that came with such an expensive move.

The Spanish giants are eager to recoup as much of that as possible, but the forward is now three years into his six-year deal.

Simply put, the longer he stays, the less Real can cash him in for.

Man United’s main competition appears to be Paris Saint-Germain, and the pair are locked at the head of the betting at 2/1.

It’s believed Real would prefer to sell Rodriguez to the French aces, who are allegedly more willing to stump up the sizeable fee.

But the player himself is seemingly keen on Old Trafford… so who will win out?
