ITV Racing Tips: Barney Roy set to eclipse his rivals at Sandown

How do you solve a conundrum like this year’s Coral-Eclipse? That’s the question we’ve tried to answer ahead of the latest cracking renewal at Sandown.
And we’ve also cast our net across the rest of the ITV Racing card, with seven live races set to be televised from Esher and Haydock.
Dee Stakes winner and Derby runner-up Cliffs Of Moher has been the money horse, St. James’s Palace Stakes hero Barney Roy is the curveball, while Craven Stakes winner Eminent will surely land a big pot at some point, according to some.
Here’s our take on proceedings ahead what promises to be a thrilling Saturday afternoon.
There’s also the not-so-small matters of the Coral Charge, Lancashire Oaks and Old Newton Cup to be decided.

We’ll be going against a few of our previous fancies (and winners!) in this piece, with Ajman Princess one of those we’re swerving this time around.
Instead, Abingdon gets the nod for this competitive Lancashire Oaks renewal.
Her 10-length rout of the field on her seasonal reappearance at Pontefract made it four wins from seven outings under Rules.
And that decisive Listed success, coupled with her trainer’s well-feted ability with four-year-olds, clearly sets the standard.
She’s the highest-rated horse in the field and we’re expecting new partner Richard Kingscote to get a fine tune out of her on Merseyside.
Firstly, we really hope Eminent doesn’t hack up. Having backed him for his Craven success, and kept the faith for the Guineas and the Derby, you’d think we go the whole hog and endorse the Martyn Meade-trained star for the Eclipse.
Not this time. Barney Roy showed us all that he’s the real deal when landing the spoils at Royal Ascot. And of the leading three-year-olds set to turn up here he’s the one to be on.
The extra two furlongs is a minor concern but connections’ confidence, his breeding, and the way he’s finished his previous races suggests this son of Galileo will stay.
Both Cliffs Of Moher and Eminent have had their chances at the top level and still have to be respected. But Barney is the boy and he’ll put this stunning summer contest to bed.
This valuable handicap is a predictably tricky affair with plenty to choose from in the latest running of the Old Newton Cup.
To help you make up your mind, 13 of the last 15 winners had won over the 1m4f trip, the same number were aged five or younger, 12 of the 15 were officially rated between 89 and 97 while 10 of 15 were drawn in stall 13 or lower.
All of which leads us to the Jim Goldie-trained Euchen Glen.
He put in an eye-catching display to score at Ayr last time out although he did find things tougher at York beforehand, against some of these re-opposing rivals.
If his pilot James Sullivan can get him into a position to challenge late on then our Lively Longshot can certainly make a bold bid for at least some place money.
