Injured or axed? Barkley left out of Everton’s pre-season tour

Ross Barkley may not be an Everton player for much longer, according to the latest odds.

The Toffees midfielder has been linked with an exit from Goodison Park for several months – and now he has been left out of the club’s pre-season tour to Tanzania.

New boys Davy Klaasen (Barkley’s potential successor) Michael Keane and Wayne Rooney have all made the trip.

The Merseysiders say Barkley is absent because he is recovering from a groin injury.

But the same could apply to Yannick Bolasie (knee injury) and yet the winger has gone to Africa.

Throw in the continued discontent between Barkley and Toffees boss Ronald Koeman, and it looks like the 23-year-old is on his way out.

The Dutchman laid down the law in May, telling Barkley to sign a new deal or he will be sold.

And with no deal forthcoming, it looks like the latter will play out sooner rather than later.

Our traders reckon so, with 8/13 saying the midfielder is playing his football elsewhere by the time this summer’s transfer window closes.

But where will Barkley go?

Tottenham look the most obvious option, and they’re even-money favourites to sign the Liverpudlian.

In truth, they’re the only realistic contenders according to the odds.

Chelsea are second in the running, but the Blues odds of 7/1 highlight how strongly Spurs are fancied.

It’s 10/1 Barkley quits England altogether and joins AC Milan, with Arsenal chalked up at 12/1.
