ICYMI: Lions stun bookies but still underdogs to win series

The British and Irish Lions pulled off a massive betting upset and cost us a pretty penny this weekend but the tourists aren’t fancied to follow up and win their series decider against New Zealand.

The Lions were dramatic 24-21 victors over the 14-man All Blacks on Saturday. It was a result that left us with a half-a-million-pound pay out after patriotic punters had steamed into Warren Gatland’s side.

However, the travelling party are the 7/2 outsiders to win the third Test at Eden Park and clinch the series with the hosts 1/5 to claim the honours. Meanwhile, a tie, and therefore a drawn series, is a 25/1 shot.

The All Blacks’ formidable record at the Auckland venue has been well-documented.

New Zealand haven’t lost there since 1994. But with the tourists inflicting their opponents’ first Test defeat on their own patch since 2009 there will likely be plenty prepared to put money on more history being made by the Lions.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “This incredible Lions victory has left us shocked and punters ecstatic. We didn’t give them a chance before the match, but punters kept the faith and have been hugely rewarded as a result.”
