How the bookies are calling Carl Frampton v Andres Gutierrez

Northern Ireland’s Carl Frampton is back in the squared circle this Saturday night against Mexico’s Andres Gutierrez, in a WBC world featherweight title eliminator.
The Jackal will be looking to bounce back from his sole professional defeat against Leo Santa Cruz last January – a defeat that still rankles with the Belfast man.
From the outside looking in, this looks a straightforward fight for Frampton, but having spoken to our boxing expert Tommy Young, we’re not as sure.

Ladbrokes News: Tommy, what are your initial thoughts on the fight?
Tommy Young: This is possibly Carl Frampton’s most important fight in his career to date, to be honest.
It’s a first fight on home soil in Belfast since 2015 so he can expect tremendous support from the sold out SSE Arena crowd.
The Jackal should thrive on the atmosphere, and with it being a particularly partisan crowd, the odds of 1/25 about the Frampton win are spot-on.
LN: What do you make of Andres Gutierrez?
TY: He looks a tough cookie, Gutierrez. He has an impressive record of 35 wins with just one loss and one draw.
His only defeat came against the former World Champion Cristian Mijares and many feel Gutierrez did enough to win that fight.
Gutierrez represents a dangerous opponent for The Jackal and if he is anything less than fully focused then he could be in for a tough night against this hard-hitting experienced opponent.
LN: So, you’re saying he has a chance?
TY: Absolutely! This is boxing, don’t forget – all it takes is one punch.
Having said that, Frampton is still a huge favourite for this fight and with good reason.
Frampton is a proven world class boxer while Gutierrez has not stepped up before and only fought outside of Mexico twice.
Frampton is a more technically-gifted boxer and has quicker hand speed than the Mexican.
The only department it could be argued Gutierrez holds an advantage is in power and even then it’s borderline.
In theory, he doesn’t look to be anything Frampton couldn’t handle.
LN: Right, so give us your prediction then?
TY: I expect the Jackal to outclass Gutierrez and take a wide points victory setting him up to fight Lee Selby for his IBF strap in the autumn.
The 4/7 for a points win is a bit short so a decent bet for the fight is Frampton to be knocked down and win at 10/1.
He was down twice against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr in Texas before dominating the rest of the fight and if he gets caught here he could go down again so 10/1 is a nice price.
