Hamilton favourite to win in Austria – but rain is on the way

After thrills and spills in Azerbaijan last time out, the 2017 Formula One heads to Austria and the weather forecast means we could be in for more drama.

The Red Bull Ring in Spielberg is set to be besieged by rain and thunder throughout this weekend’s event.

It’s round nine of the 20-race campaign, and represents the start of three races in a hectic July schedule.

And following controversial incidents in Baku, the title race between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel is hotter than ever.

The German leads the championship by 14 points, but faced heavy criticism after causing a deliberate collision with his main foe in Azerbaijan.

Vettel could yet pick up a race ban, but for now, he’s free to race in Austria.

That doesn’t help him much in the betting however, with Hamilton the 4/5 favourite to win this Sunday.

It leaves the Ferrari ace as the 9/4 outsiders, with Valtteri Bottas 9/2 to claim his second race win for Mercedes.

But given the forecast, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen are the men to watch.

The former came home to secure his first win of the year in Azerbaijan, and is 22/1 to make it two on the spin at Red Bull’s home event.

But there is a torrent of rage within teenage ace Verstappen right now, having retired from four of the last six events.

The Dutchman is desperate to claim a good result and is 20/1 to win this weekend.

And should conditions prove tricky, he could be the star of the show as he was in Brazil last season.

It was the street circuit nature which caused the incredible drama in Azerbaijan last time around, but this weekend it looks like the weather gods are going to have their say.
