In a summer where Premier League clubs have gone money-mad, spending cash like it’s going out of fashion, there are still a few sides doing ‘normal’ business.
Forget your £40m deals, we’re taking a look at the summer transfers that have passed us all by without much of a fuss.
Here are the Top Five Bargain Bucket signings:
Jermain Defoe – Bournemouth, free
At 34-years-old, Jermain Defoe is mostly definitely a veteran at this stage of his career, but still banging in the goals.
The England striker scored 34 goals in 87 games for Sunderland. Spearheading a far better Cherries side under Eddie Howe should see the England striker continue on the goal trail.
Charlie Taylor – Burnley, £5m
Burnley bagged themselves a real coup with the signing of Charlie Taylor from Leeds United for just £5m.
The left-back impressed hugely at Elland Road, bombing up and down the flank with pace, guile and directness. Signed for relative peanuts, at 23-years-old he’s got the potential to make the England squad in a year or two.
Jairo Riedewald – Crystal Palace, £7.25m
Crystal Palace snagging a talent like Jairo Riedewald for such a pittance should have much bigger teams weeping into their bottomless bank vaults.
The 20-year-old was probably swayed by Frank de Boer’s installation as Eagles’ manager but the Dutch international is some signing from Ajax.
He can play pretty much anywhere across the defence, as well as defensive midfield, with a penchant for Beckenbauer-like passing.
Sandro Ramirez – Everton, £5.25m
With Everton splashing some serious cash this summer, this signing has flown slightly under the radar.
Ex-Barcelona forward Sandro, at just £5m, represents cracking value. Highly-rated at the Camp Nou, the 22-year-old impressed hugely last season with Malaga, scoring 14 goals in 30 appearances.
He could be an incredibly low-cost, value replacement for Gerard Deulofeu.
Dominic Solanke – Liverpool, £10m
It’s still quite shocking that Chelsea allowed this to happen. Nurtured in Chelsea’s famous/infamous youth system, Solanke was one of the jewels in its crown.
Liverpool may have to fork out up-to £10m for the 19-year-old but it could prove to be an absolute bargain in the long run.
A big, quick, powerful, lethal finisher, Solanke could be a £70m player in less than a few seasons.
