Celtic v Rosenborg: Hoops a lovely price to beat the handicap

Ladbrokes Premiership champions Celtic host Rosenborg in the first-leg of their Champions League third round qualifier on Wednesday night.

After easily dispatching Linfield in the previous round, the Hoops will have the slightly more difficult task of overcoming the Norwegian title holders.

When we say slightly more difficult, the emphasis is on the word ‘slightly’. This really should be a fairly straightforward task for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Anyone who watched Rosenborg over their two-legged tie with League of Ireland champions Dundalk will know they’re not on Celtic’s level, frankly.

The Eliteserien side struggled to overcome the Irish side, and were arguably very lucky to have even progressed.

Dundalk should have come away with a first-leg win, and even though they were pinned back for periods of the second-leg, could have snatched a dramatic winner in extra-time.

This is all not to say Rosenborg don’t stand a chance against Scott Brown and co., but they really will have to perform spectacularly to get a result at Parkhead.

A bet we really like is Celtic to beat the -1 handicap at 6/5. These two haven’t played each other since 2001 – a game in which the Hoops won at home 1-0.

That was at a time when both clubs were of equal-ish quality. The gap is arguably a lot more skewed in the Scottish side’s favour nowadays.

It’s 7/4 for Over 1.5 First Half Goals and with Celtic Park likely to be rocking, Brendan Rodgers’ players will likely be out of the trap quickest.

Scott Sinclair has been in terrific form since his move from Aston Villa last year and looks likely to get on the scoresheet again. He’s 7/2 to be First Goalscorer.
