Carl Frampton v Andres Gutierrez: tale of the tape

Northern Ireland’s boxing hero Carl Frampton (23-1-0) is back in the ring this Saturday night to take on Andres Gutierrez (35-1-1) in a WBC world featherweight title eliminator.
‘The Jackal’ will be looking to bounce back from his first professional loss against Leo Santa Cruz in their WBA title fight in Las Vegas in January.
He was comprehensively beaten that night in a unanimous points defeat. This weekend, he might just have a more straightforward task to look forward to.
The Belfast-born fighter is a massive favourite, just 1/25 to win. It’s hard to argue those odds, too, when you consider the vast difference in experience between the two boxers, and the fact Frampton is fighting on home turf.
Gutierrez has actually been the more prolific of the pair having turned pro at just 15-years-old. He’s already racked up 37 fights to Frampton’s 24, and has only been beaten just once.
That distorts the picture a little, though. The Mexican has yet to step up in class, fighting outside of his home country just twice. Frampton, on the otherhand, has been involved in world-class dust ups for a number of years now.
Guttierez, known as the ‘Jaguar’, is also the bigger man, taller by an inch at 5’6 with a huge four inch reach advantage. He’s also known domestically for his power, with 25 knockouts to his name.
Frampton needs to be wary, but arguably is the far more technically skilled boxer. Should he prevail here, a massive fight with IBF champion Lee Selby awaits. Lets hope he can get the job done.
