It’s been six years since the last transfer between fierce Second City rivals Aston Villa and Birmingham City took place, when Curtis Davis joined Blues in 2011.

But our trading team think we’re on the cusp of seeing a trade between this pair once again, having closed the book on Tommy Elphick quitting the Villans for Blues.

The 29-year-old only joined Steve Bruce’s side last summer, but despite impressing during four years with Bournemouth, things didn’t quite go to plan for the centre-back at Villa Park.

Despite receiving the captain’s armband upon joining the club, he fell out of favour during the season, starting just five games in this calendar year.

And his time at Villa now looks sure to end in controversial fashion with a move to St. Andrew’s.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Elphick is on course to transform from Villan to villain on one half of the city, while Blues fans will be crowing over snatching a talent from their rivals.”

Birmingham are currently 8/1 for promotion this term, but could snapping up a proven defender from their fierce local rivals be just the shot in the arm they need?
