Arsenal set to miss out on Mahrez as Roma odds cut again

Riyad Mahrez odds

He had been as short as 1/5 to join Arsenal this summer, but now Riyad Mahrez looks set to choose the Italian capital instead.

The Algerian has been put on the transfer list by Leicester City at his own request, although a £40m asking price has reportedly deterred both the Gunners and Liverpool.

And it’s actually the latter which may be the reason Mahrez now leaves England altogether.

The Anfield outfit, refusing to listen to Leicester’s asking price, signed one of their other summer targets, Roma’s Mohamed Salah instead.

Younger, cheaper and tactically more versatile, Jurgen Klopp looks to have made the right decision with the Egyptian instead of Mahrez.

But it means Roma need to replace their star man.

And Mahrez is the most likely candidate, with the weekend’s press suggesting a deal could be completed in the near future – for Leicester’s much-wanted £40m.

Our traders have again cut the odds on the winger joining the Serie A giants, and it’s now just 11/10 for the deal to go ahead.

The Romans had been 6/4 yesterday, and prior to that had been relatively out of contention at 12/1.

Conversely, it means Arsenal have now drifted out of odds-on into evens.

It remains to be seen what other business the Gunners do this summer, having already signed Alexandre Lacazette for a club record fee from Lyon.

Though they remain favourites to land the 2015-16 PFA Player of the Year, the odds and latest reports now suggests Mahrez is off to Roma.
