Who is Gaetan Laborde? Liverpool’s latest transfer target

Published:

Make no bones about it, this is a big summer for Liverpool.

The Reds are preparing for a return to Champions League football, and will also be hoping to launch a sustained challenge for the Premier League.

So that means Jurgen Klopp is set to be a busy man in the transfer market.

Roma’s Mohamed Salah and Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk are two players reportedly nearing a Liverpool move.

But according to today’s press, Bordeaux striker Gaeten Laborde could be another.

The Frenchman isn’t too well known outside of his homeland, but it appears he could be the next Anfield arrival.

Reports continue to link both Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi with moves elsewhere, which would leave Klopp light on striking options.

Laborde hit 13 goals for Bordeaux last term, including a fine seven from just six cup appearances.

The 23-year-old has spent his entire career with the Gironde-based club, and has enjoyed several loan spells at Red Star, Brest and Clermont.

He has also appeared for France at each of U17, U18, U19 and U20 age groups.

This has certainly been Laborde’s best career to date, and his fantastic, instinctive goal against Nice in April showcased his talents.

Have a little look online, and you’ll quickly realise why he might just be a fine addition to Klopp’s front-line.

It may also explain why Bordeaux were quick to sign him up to a new contract last month.

He may be tied down until 2020, but with a valuation of just £4.25m, Laborde isn’t going to break the bank.
