West Ham, West Brom and Watford in race for Montpellier hitman

West Ham transfer news

All three of West Ham United, West Bromwich Albion and Watford lacked strength in depth up front last season, so it’s no surprise to see the trio battling over the signature of Montpellier striker Steve Mounie this summer.

The Irons are 2/1 favourites to snap up the 22-year-old forward, who netted 15 times for the Ligue 1 outfit last term.

At present, West Ham are possibly the most under-strength of the pack up front, due to long-term injuries (Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho), and under-performers. Combine that with the biggest budget of the trio, and it’s no surprise to see them at the head of the market.

However, the Baggies aren’t too far behind, with 7/2 on offer for the Benin international to head to The Hawthorns this summer.

Watford are third in the market at 4/1, with new boss Marco Silva keen to get his business wrapped up early.

Meanwhile, Leicester City are 7/1 dark horses for the former Nimes loanee’s signature, with Everton priced up at 9s, and a return to his homeland with Monaco a 10/1 shot.

However, despite reported interest from Fulham, a move to Craven Cottage is considered unlikely at 14/1, with Montpellier reportedly holding out for over £13m for the player – a fee too high for the Championship outfit.
