Racing Round-Up: Cracksman and Lady Aurelia favs for next races
Published:Royal Ascot has been and gone for another year and the odds-compilers are now looking ahead to the next big contests in the Flat racing calendar.
King’s Stand Stakes heroine Lady Aurelia has been chalked up as the even-money favourite for August’s Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
The Wesley Ward-trained speedster was a scintillating winner of last week’s Group 1 race and she’s already being well-backed for a follow-up success.
Commonwealth Cup runner-up Harry Angel is next best in the Nunthorpe market at 4/1 with Queen Mary winner Heartache a 7/1 shot.
Cracksman fancied to gain Classic revenge
Closer on the horizon is this weekend’s Irish Derby at the Curragh. John Gosden’s Cracksman remains the 9/4 favourite to turn the tables on his English equivalent conqueror, Wings Of Eagles.
Ballydoyle’s Classic winner is the 5/2 second favourite with French raider Waldgeist next on the list at 7/2.
Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “The Nunthorpe is shaping up to be a mouth-watering clash of the speedsters. If Lady Aurelia, Harry Angel and Heartache all show up, we could be treated to the sprint of the season.”
