Meet the Napoli maestro who’s 1/2 to join Liverpool this summer

Following interest from a number of European giants, Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski now seems to have selected his club of choice – Liverpool – with odds of just 1/2 for the Poland international to head to Anfield this summer.

So, just who is Zielinski?

The midfielder was scouted by Italian side Udinese back in 2011, but struggled for a regular berth in the first team – playing just 20 times before heading out for a two-year loan at fellow Serie A side Empoli from 2014-16.

And the classy midfielder certainly developed during his time at Stadio Carlo Caste, building a reputation as a superb passer of the ball – chalking up nine assists over the course of those campaigns.

He also found the net five times in the latter campaign, including a stunner against Torino, and goals against the likes of Fiorentina and AC Milan.

However, it’s at Napoli where the 23-year-old has impressed most, directly contributing to 12 goals in Serie A during 2016-17, as well as chalking up an impressive 88% pass completion rate.

With Liverpool heading into the Champions League next term, they’d be getting – on top of all that – a player with plenty of pedigree in Europe’s premier cup competition.

Zielinski played in seven of Partenopei’s eight UCL games last term, including an impressive display at the Bernabeu during their Round of 16 tie against Real Madrid.

The Reds now look very likely to get this deal over the line in the coming weeks. And having returned with a bang for the national side last week – recording two assists against Romania – they’ll be getting a man in fine form and high on confidence.

Having helped Napoli to a third-placed finish in Serie A last term, he could now help Jurgen Klopp’s men come good on the even-money to make the top four in 2017-18, while there’s 12/1 on offer for the club to end their 27-year wait for a league title.
