Man United to sign Real Madrid’s Varane? We’re 4/1 a deal is done

Twitter had itself a mini-meltdown today, upon the story that Manchester United are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.

The centre-half is widely regarded as one of the best in the business, and at 24-years-old, his best days are still to come.

According to Sky Sports, United are keen on the French ace, who has been at the Bernabeu since 2011.

And the crucial point is this: Jose Mourinho was in charge of Real when Varane joined the club from Lens six years ago.

Still only 18 when he moved to Spain, Varane was eased into the Madrid first-team under Mourinho’s guidance, making 15 appearances in 2011-12.

That doubled to 33 in 2012-13, with Jose leaving the club that summer.

But the Special One is reportedly keen to offload at least one of Chris Smalling and/or Phil Jones, freeing up space for a reunion with Varane.

Valued at £30m by transfermarkt.co.uk, and with a contract running until 2020, the 24-year-old won’t come cheap.

Our traders reckon a deal is more than plausible however, especially given United’s own comments that they are out to make numerous and significant signings this summer.

And they’ve slapped a 4/1 price on Varane moving to the Red Devils.

He would bring a glittery C.V to Old Trafford too, with Varene boasting two La Ligas, a Copa del Rey, two World Club Cups, two UEFA European Super Cups and two Champions Leagues.

And he could become the youngest player ever to win three UCL titles if he can help Real defeat Juventus in Cardiff this weekend.
