Leicester usurp West Ham as favourites to buy Man City striker

King Power Stadium - Leicester City

A month is a long time in football. At this point in May, West Ham United were firm favourites to sign Kelechi Iheanacho at 11/10. But the emergence of Leicester City and Everton has seriously shaken up the betting…with the Foxes now leading the race.

It’s currently 5/2 for the Nigerian to make the King Power Stadium his next port of call – and with Leicester’s Premier League goal tally last term 20 below their title-winning campaign, it’s fair to say Craig Shakespeare is right to target firepower.

Right now, a move would certainly seem to make sense for the 20-year-old. Despite a bright beginning to the season – scoring six goals before the end of 2016 – he’s been granted just one Premier League start in this calendar year.

With a long list of summer transfer targets of their own, Citizens boss Pep Guardiola would likely be very grateful for the £25m the Foxes are reportedly willing to splash on Iheanacho.

However, the Hammers are still in the running, with 7/2 on offer for the player to head to East London. Everton follow at 5/1, though that price could soon be cut if Romelu Lukaku completes his likely exit from Goodison Park before the window closes.

Next in the betting are Stoke City (7/1), Swansea City (8/1) and West Bromwich Albion (9/1), with Man City’s fierce rivals Manchester United rounding out the market at 12s.

Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati said: “It’s clear Pep Guardiola is using this transfer window to shift deadwood, and the latest odds suggest a whole host of Premier League outfits are looking to capitalise.”
