He’s the third arrival at Elland Road this summer, but as new boss Thomas Christiansen’s first addition to the Leeds United squad, Mateusz Klich represents the start of a new era in West Yorkshire.

So, just who is the 27-year-old midfielder?

A former Poland international with 10 caps, Klich began his career with homeland club Cracovia in 2008, making his debut aged 18 and played 81 times in total for the side, with his regular assists a vital factor in the club avoiding relegation from the Ekstraklasa.

Klich moved to Wolfsburg in 2011, but failed to break into the side, moving to Dutch side PEC Zwolle in 2013. He impressed greatly with his classy passing and physical presence in midfield, and proved his big-game capabilities with an outstanding display in the Dutch Cup Final as Zwolle dismantled Ajax with a sensational 5-1 win.

He followed that with a move to German side Kaiserslautern in 2015, but returned to the Eredivisie with FC Twente last summer, and enjoyed the best season of his career to date with The Tukkers.

As well as chalking up a career-high six league goals – including netting the winner against Ajax – he proved an assured and combative presence in the Twente side. So there’s no doubt the Tarnow native has both the quality and the physique to handle the tricky task of Championship football.

Right now, there’s 11/2 on offer for the Whites to secure promotion back to the Premier League next season after 13 years away. If Klich can replicate the form he enjoyed in Holland last year, he could be the difference-maker they need to finally make it out of the Championship.
