Aston Villa, Derby and West Brom joint favourites for Welsh ace

Published:

It’s not often that a player who’s played in the Champions League knock-out stages and a Euro 2016 Semi-Final comes on the market for free. But that’s what’s happened with Joe Ledley – and there’s a flurry of clubs vying for his signature.

There’s every chance we’ll see a good old transfer tussle over the 30-year-old this summer, with a trio of Midlands outfits – Aston Villa, Derby County and West Bromwich Albion – all locked at odds of 7/2 for his signature

The midfielder struggled for game time at Selhurst Park last season, starting just 14 games in the Premier League. But there’s no doubt the Cardiff native possesses real quality – as he showed on the huge stage of Euro 2016 for Wales last summer.

And having spent a number of years in the Championship during his time at Cardiff City, the respective gaffers at Villa and Derby will have no fears over how he’ll handle life at this level.

While the 7/2 trio are firm favourites, there are a handful of outsiders in the running for Ledley’s signature.

Big-spending Wolverhampton Wanderers are 10/1 to lure the player to Molineux, while there’s 12/1 on a move to each of Stoke City and Ladbrokes Premiership winners Celtic – a club where the former Eagles man spent four successful seasons.

Huddersfield Town follow at 16/1, but it’s Cardiff who round out the betting at 25s, with our odds-crunchers effectively ruling out a return to the player’s boyhood club.
