Are Liverpool really sizing up £40m move for Oxlade-Chamberlain?
After an impressive end to the campaign, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a man in demand this summer.
And the latest reports from the Daily Express have Liverpool paying up to £40m for the Arsenal midfielder.
While that fee may be a surprise, Jurgen Klopp’s side have been front-runners for the 23-year-old’s signature for some time.
And they remain 5/6 market leaders today.
But talk of a £40m move has certainly raised eyebrows.
Oxlade-Chamberlain only has a year to run on his Arsenal contract, and is valued at just £17m by transfermarkt.co.uk.
Time will tell, but it all seems rather steep to us.
What could drive up Oxlade-Chamberlain’s asking price however, is attention from another club.
And not just any club, Manchester City.
The Citizens have been regularly tipped as a potential destination for the winger, and we make it just 3/1 a deal is done with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Either way, there’s no doubting the Englishman ended the season in fine form.
Sterling displays against Man City and Chelsea helped Arsenal win a third Emirates FA Cup in four years.
And he fired England into the lead versus Scotland at the weekend.
But his wish to play in a more central midfield role seems unlikely to happen at Arsenal, and he became Wenger’s preferred right wing-back last term, ahead of Hector Bellerin.
Liverpool remain in the driving seat for the Ox’s signature, but it remains to be seen just how much they’re willing to pay.
