Will it be Brechin or Alloa in the Ladbrokes Championship next season?

Published:

The promised land of the Ladbrokes Championship is in sight for Brechin City and Alloa Athletic, but only one of them can make it there, with the pair facing off in the play-off Final.

So, will the Wasps return to the second tier at the first time of asking, or will City end their 11-year wait for football at that level?

It’s fair to say most of the signs point towards Alloa. First off, they’ve beaten Darren Dods’ men in three of the four previous meetings this season, including a 6-1 mauling at Indodrill Stadium last month.

The Clackmannanshire club also head into this game in the better form of the pair. They’ve won four of their last six matches, while Brechin have only won once in 90 minutes in the same period.

However, City do have two in-form strikers in the form of experienced hitman Alan Trouten and pacy youngster Ross Caldwell, with both men scoring in each leg of their triumphant Semi-Final against Raith Rovers.

As for Jim Goodwin’s side, they’ll be desperate for Greig Spence to return to form. He’s scored just twice in his last 11 outings, following goals in seven of his prior 13 outings.

The first leg takes place at Glebe Park, with the hosts 27/20 for a first leg victory, while Alloa are 7/4 shots, and the draw priced up at 23/10.

However, with the Wasps having netted first in eight of their last 10 games, the 12/5 for them to win the first half could prove the savviest bet of all.
