Will Hamilton or Inverness CT secure final-day Premiership reprieve?

Published:

Just a point separates Hamilton Academical and Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Ladbrokes Premiership’s bottom two positions, as we head into the final day of the season.

One will go down automatically, the other will get a second shot at survival through the play-offs. So, without further ado, here’s the lowdown on each side’s crucial final fixture…

Hamilton v Dundee

Accies head into this clash needing to arrest a four-game losing streak – but history suggests they face the ideal opposition. Martin Canning’s men have taken 10 points from their last five meetings with the Dens Park outfit.

However, this current Dundee side are an unpredictable one. Paul Hartley’s charges have won their last two away games, but have taken just a solitary point from their previous two matches – at home to Ross County and Inverness respectively.

Personally, we think there’s a good chance of Hamilton taking something, but they’ll have to keep the in-form Marcus Haber quiet, while the likes of Alexandre D’Akol and Ali Crawford need to be at their creative, clinical best for the hosts.

In the betting, we like the 15/4 for a score draw. Accies have played out the league’s joint-highest number of draws this season (14), and only two of those have ended goalless.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Motherwell

Fans of the Caley Jags will be praying for a Dee victory at New Douglas Park, but in truth, many of their supporters will be surprised and heartened by the fact the Highland outfit still have a chance of salvaging their season.

A few short weeks ago they looked dead and buried, but six points from the past three games has brought Inverness back into contention. And having netted seven times in five matches now, they could do damage to a Well defence who have conceded 66 league goals this term.

However, they haven’t taken a point from the Lanarkshire club at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium in any of the last three meetings. We could see Caley Thistle’s recent form ending that run with a point, but we reckon they’ll fall just short of Hamilton and suffer the drop.

Either way, it’s set to be a cracker. Each of the last six meetings between the pair have produced three goals or more, so the 8/13 for Over 2.5 Goals looks to be a banker.
