West Ham set to trigger release clause for Brazilian wing wizard

It’s fair to say the 2016-17 season has been something of a letdown for West Ham United fans. But better times could be ahead for the Irons – and that resurgence could begin with the signing of Ludogorets winger Jonathan Cafu.

Reports by the Daily Express claim that Slaven Bilic is set to trigger the Brazilian’s £10.2m release clause this summer. So – would he be a good addition for the East London outfit?

Well, they’ve certainly struggled on the right flank this season. Soufiane Feghouli has underwhelmed, while Michail Antonio has been used more as an attacking utility man – switched between positions – than his natural position on the right wing.

There’s little doubting that Cafu has real quality. 14 goals and nine assists in all competitions this term is a pretty impressive record.

And the 25-year-old has shown he can do the business against Premier League opposition, having registered a goal and an assist in Ludogorets’ home UCL clash with Arsenal.

With the necessary price only a fraction over £10m, he’d also be something of a bargain if Cafu can replicate the form he’s produced for Orlite this season.

However, while Bilic has one eye on the transfer market, the focus of the current Irons crop will be on Sunday’s meeting with Tottenham at London Stadium.

West Ham are 6/1 for victory, while 22/1 says they beat Spurs 1-0 in East London for the second time in succession.
