West Ham emerge as new favourites to snap up Everton star

Few topics have provoked as much discussion as the future of Everton ace Ross Barkley in 2017, with a raft of Premier League heavyweights keen to secure his signature.

But not many would have predicted the latest development, with West Ham United new favourites to sign the Scouse supremo.

The boyhood Evertonian enjoyed the best season of his career so far in 2016-17, chalking up five goals and nine assists in the Premier League, putting in one excellent display after another.

But he could soon be off. Slaven Bilic is just 6/4 to lure the 23-year-old to London Stadium, with the Irons boardroom reportedly happy to pay out a cool £140k per week to the England international.

That willingness to spend big on Barkley has seen them leapfrog Tottenham in the betting, with a move to the Lilywhites now priced up at 11/5.

Still, it looks likely to be one of that pair who secure the Toffees ace, with third-favourites Manchester United some way behind at odds of 9/1.

They’re followed by Premier League winners Chelsea at 10s, with a shock move to Liverpool and a switch to Manchester City both 16/1, while Arsenal round out the betting at 20/1.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “The Hammers seem willing to break the bank for Barkley, and they’re now firm favourites to snap up the midfield magician.”
