Watford lead Prem and continental rivals in race for Torino star

Published:

With Premier League safety secured some time ago at Vicarage Road, Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has turned his focus to the Summer transfer market – and in particular, Torino midfielder Mirko Valdifiori.

And the Hertfordshire outfit currently lead the race to prise the 31-year-old away from I Granata, with our traders making it a 2/1 shot for the experienced Italian to make the Hornets his next club.

The 31-year-old joined Torino from Napoli last summer, but despite a good first half of the campaign, the defensive midfielder has fallen out of favour with boss Sinisa Mihajlovic, starting just one of the Turin club’s last 12 games.

However, he could be just what the Hornets need. They’ve been overrun in midfield of late, losing their last five games – and conceding four goals at Stamford Bridge on Monday night. So it’s no surprise they’re keen on the steely and creative midfielder.

However, the Hornets are far from the only club in the running for the former Italy international.

Fiorentina are second-favourites at 7/2, with a trio of Premier League sides – Swansea City (6/1), West Bromwich Albion (7/1) and Southampton (8/1) – following the Serie A outfit in the betting.

Roma are also priced up at 8s, with a switch to homeland giants Juventus rounding out the betting at 12/1.
