Two-time Champions League winner 1/3 to join…Crewe Alexandra!

A number of English football’s top talents have come through Crewe Alexandra’s famous academy: Danny Murphy, David Platt and Dean Ashton, to name just a few. But now a star name in the twilight of his career looks set to join the Alex. His name?

Wes Brown.

The 37-year-old burst onto the scene at Manchester United in 1997, going on to play 362 times for the Red Devils. Along the way, he picked up an impressive haul of trophies along the way, including five Premier League winners’ medals, two FA Cups and lifting the Champions League trophy twice.

That was followed by five solid years at Sunderland, though his most recent campaign – spent at Blackburn Rovers – saw the veteran used infrequently. And with his contract ending next month, Crewe are hot favourites for his signature at odds of 1/3.

The former England international isn’t the quickest of players now and may currently be a bit rusty after a lack of matches at Ewood Park.

However, there’s little doubt his experience, classy ball-control and reading of the game would make Brown an excellent addition to the Railwaymen’s ranks.

What do Crewe fans think? Would you see the former Man United ace as a smart addition to the squad, or would you rather the club look elsewhere?
