Traders suspend betting on Gylfi Sigurdsson joining Everton

Gylfi Sigurdsson looks set to become an Everton player in the next few days – despite a disagreement over wages.

It has been widely reported that the Toffees have agreed a £25m deal with Swansea for the Icelandic ace, who hit nine goals and 13 assists in the Premier League this term.

The Merseyside outfit were willing to up Sigurdsson’s wages from £80,000-per-week to £100,000-per-week.

But it’s believed the 27-year-old is holding out for £130,000-per-week.

Despite the disagreement, our traders are confident the move will still go ahead, and have suspended betting.

There’s no doubting Sigurdsson’s impact this year, with the midfielder contributing to 22 of Swansea’s 45 league goals this season.

So it just remains to be seen whether Ronald Koeman feels the Iceland ace is worth the increased salary.

The Dutchman looks set to offload Ross Barkley this summer, with Koeman evidently unimpressed by the England international’s refusal to sign a new deal.

And with Romelu Lukaku also set to leave this summer, Everton will need to spend to maintain their spot in the Premier League’s top-half.

Should the wage spat prove a deal-breaker however, it could be good news for Tottenham and Southampton, who have both also been linked with Sigurdsson this term.

While the Icelander failed to make an impression during his prior stint at White Hart Lane, things have changed plenty since Mauricio Pochettino took charge.

But should Sigurdsson choose against a return to his former club, then Southampton could still luck in.
