The fights you can’t afford to miss over the next few months
Strap yourselves in for an exciting few months of boxing – that’s our advice. There’s plenty going on across the planet, from Kell Brook’s return to the ring to Manny Pacquiao’s first ever bout in Australia.
Want to see what the odds are saying? Ladbrokes News have picked out four standout bouts, giving you a quick update on how things are looking right now, starting with a certain Special K…
Kell Brook v Errol Spence Jr – 27 May, Bramall Lane, Sheffield
This is Brook’s (36-1-0, 25 KOs) first time back in the ring since defeat to Gennady Golovkin last September. In truth, that was a bout he never looked like winning. But at 5/4, he’ll fancy his chances against Spence Jr (21-0-0, 18 KOs), who is the 4/6 favourite to extend his unbeaten record.
George Groves v Fedor Chudinov – 27 May, Bramall Lane, Sheffield
Groves (25-3-0, 18 KOs) will have another crack at a title when he meets the heavy-hitting Russian in Sheffield on Brook’s undercard. Chudinov (14-1-0 8 KOs) lost last time out to Felix Sturm, and heads into this as the 10/3 outsider, while Groves is currently as short as 1/5 for his 26thcareer victory.
Andre Ward v Sergey Kovalev II – 18 June, Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas
Ward (31-0-0, 15 KOs) retained his unbeaten record in style the last time these two fighters met, winning by unanimous decision. And he’ll head into this rematch as the 8/11 favourite. In truth though, not a lot separates this pair. With that in mind, Kovalev (30-1-1, 26 KOs) could represent great value at 6/5 for some punters. The powerful Russian has had his wish granted, but will it be repeat or revenge?
Manny Pacquiao v Jeff Horn – 2 July, Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
Make no mistake about it, Horn (16-0-1, 11 KOs) wouldn’t have taken up this opportunity to fight Pacquiao (59-6-2 38 KOs) unless he genuinely thought he could beat him. He has a pretty impressive record, although this is undoubtedly his toughest test yet. Pac Man is 1/10 to win this one, while Horn is way out at 6s, although that being said, stranger things have happened…
