Political punters are flocking to key marginal seats

Our political odds gurus have seen an increase in bets being placed on key marginal seats over recent days.

With the Conservative Party remaining short-priced favourites to win an overall majority in this year’s General Election there are a number of interesting battlegrounds where opportunities are being seized upon by savvy punters.

The top five seats by number of bets taken are:

Brentford and Isleworth – (Cons 1/4, Lab 11/4)

Bristol West – (Lab 4/9, Green 9/4, Lib Dem 7/2)

Cambridge – (Lib Dem 2/5, Lab 2/1)

Bermondsey and Old Southwark – (Lib Dem 8/11, Lab Evens)

Edinburgh South – (Lab 5/6, SNP 11/8)

Matthew Shaddick, Head of Political Betting at Ladbrokes said: “The main markets have been fairly stable for a couple of days and this could easily change once we get a few new polls over the weekend. Our seat betting indicates a Tory majority of 114, which is down from a high of 152 last week.”

At the moment our official projection for the total number of seats won still gives the Conservatives a healthy majority over Labour.

On turnout, Shaddick added: “We’ve seen plenty of money predicting a high turnout, at the moment we’re offering 10/1 for over 70 per cent. Naturally, if the overall result begins to look close, that expectation could rise.”
