Partick Thistle v Rangers: Jags well-priced for rare Gers triumph

Published:

It’s fair to say it’s been some time since Partick Thistle last got the better of Rangers. 24 years, to be precise. But we think Sunday could well be the day Alan Archibald’s men finally end that unwanted record.

The Jags have won five and drawn one of their last seven games at Firhill, conceding just three goals in the process. And they’ve shown they have no fear of the Ladbrokes Premiership’s top sides, picking up a point at Celtic Park last month.

As for the Gers, they’ve managed a solitary victory in their last seven on the road, including defeat to bottom club Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Combined with the deflating nature of last weekend’s 5-1 mauling by Celtic, it’s fair to say they won’t be at their most confident.

That means it’s likely we’ll see Kris Doolan continue his impressive scoring record at Firhill.

The 30-year-old has netted seven times in Thistle’s last five home games, including two doubles. He’s well-priced to net anytime here at 21/10, while 10/1 says he registers a brace – or better.

However, the stats suggest we’ll be waiting until the second period to see this game really light up.

Thistle’s last six games have produced 16 goals, but 14 of those have come in the second period. So the 19/20 for the second period to produce the most goals looks like something of a banker.

Meanwhile, in the scoreline markets, backing a 2-0 victory for Thistle could prove an inspired selection. They’ve won by that score on six occasions already this term, so the 18/1 for a repeat could well leave punters in seventh heaven.

In the match betting, Partick Thistle look the better shout at 23/10, with Pedro Caixinha’s men 21/20 and the draw priced up at 12/5.
