Newcastle United 4/1 to re-sign Moussa Sissoko from Tottenham

Moussa Sissoko could be set to end his Tottenham nightmare and return to Newcastle United, according to the latest odds.

The Frenchman has endured a terrible campaign at White Hart Lane, describing it as the ‘worst season’ of his career.

Sissoko failed to establish himself under Mauricio Pochettino, and he averaged just 36 minutes of Premier League football from 21 appearances.

The Frenchman only started eight times in the league, and is rapidly seeking an exit.

Hoping to secure a spot in France’s squad for the 2018 World Cup, Sissoko’s chances look bleak if he spends another season on Spurs’ fringes.

Newcastle are returning to the Premier League next season, and boss Rafael Benitez has been given between £70m-100m to spend on recruitment.

Tottenham paid the Magpies a tidy £30m on deadline day last summer.

And with four years still to run on his Spurs’ deal, Sissoko shouldn’t come cheap.

But if player and club are so keen to part ways, it’s possible the Toon Army could land a cut-price deal.

Sissoko is also one of Tottenham’s biggest earners, with his salary far in excess of club regulars such as Kyle Walker, Dele Alli and Danny Rose.

Marseille are the market leaders at 3/1, but the Velodrome outfit are going through a period of transition under new owners, and were not in title contention last season.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Newcastle are readying for their Premier League return, and Sissoko needs first-team football to boost his World Cup hopes.”

“Marseille lead the betting, but we aren’t ruling out a Geordie return for the French international.”

It’s 5/1 Sissoko heads to China, in which case Spurs would likely recoup their £30m outlay.

Nice, Everton, West Ham and Crystal Palace are each at 10/1.

Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and Lyon round out the betting at 12/1 apiece.
