Mourinho short odds to deliver silverware next term after UEL joy

Published:

It was a double-whammy for Manchester United last night, as Jose Mourinho’s men lifted the Europa League trophy with victory over Ajax – a result which also secured a spot in next season’s Champions League group stage.

And our odds compilers believe there’s more silverware heading for the Old Trafford cabinet next season.

They make it a 1/2 shot that he leads the club to any major trophy next term, having managed a pair of honours in his first campaign, preceding that UEL triumph with EFL Cup glory against Southampton at Wembley.

However, despite being confident of Jose adding to the club’s collection next season, our traders reckon it’ll be tough to repeat the feat of winning multiple competitions – especially with a step-up in Europe.

That’s reflected in the odds of 8/1 for the Portuguese to guide the North-West giants to two or more trophies in 2017-18.

But United fans would happily settle for just one…provided it was the Premier League or UCL.

The Red Devils are set to compete in Europe’s top competition next season, and the Old Trafford faithful will already be dreaming of their side lifting “Ol’ Big Ears” for a fourth time in their history.

It’s 12/1 for Jose to lead United to the trophy in 2017-18, while 9/2 says he wins it any time as Red Devils’ boss.

Do that and it’s one small step closer to matching the legacy of Sir Alex Ferguson.

And while it’s very unlikely the Setubal native matches Fergie’s haul of 25 major honours, there are – fittingly – odds of 25/1 for Jose to do just that.

However, the United gaffer’s focus will be firmly on next season, for the time being – with a top four finish in next season’s Prem surely the aim.

There’s 2/5 for the Old Trafford outfit to make the cut next term, while 10/3 says they lift the league title for the first time since 2013.
