Man United Evens to sign Leicester stopper; Man City 3/1 shots

The name Schmeichel is still spoken in reverent terms by Manchester United fans, thanks to the feats of legendary goalkeeper Peter.

And the famous surname set to adorn the dressing room at Old Trafford once again, with the Red Devils even-money to sign Leicester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The Danish stopper was an ever-present in the Foxes Premier League triumph last term, conceding just 36 goals over the course of the season (or 0.95 per game).

He’s continued to impress this season, producing five shut-outs in eight matches en route to the Champions League Quarter-Finals – while it was no coincidence to see his injury in late 2016 lead to a drastic dip in Leicester’s form.

However, while Jose Mourinho is in pole position for the 30-year-old’s signature, he could face stiff competition from his nemesis Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard is 3/1 to tempt the Copenhagen native to the Etihad – with Schmeichel Junior having began his professional career with the Sky Blues.

Liverpool are third-favourites at 7/1, with North London duo Arsenal (8/1) and Tottenham (10s) round out the betting.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “18 years after his Dad bowed out as a United legend, Kasper is on course to bring a famous name back to the Theatre of Dreams.”
