Man City favourites to land AC Milan wonderkid in record-breaking deal

Published:

It’s fair to say things havem’t exactly gone according to plan for Pep Guardiola in his first season in charge of Manchester City. There’s a long way to go before we see the levels of dominance he achieved with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but the Spaniard looks to be building for the future.

Having spent a combined sum of £117m on three players aged 22 or under last summer, Pep is reportedly set to turn his attention to another youngster in the form of AC Milan wonderkid, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

It’s likely that were a deal to be agreed, the teenager would become the most expensive goalkeeper of all-time (a record currently held by compatriot, Gianluigi Buffon who cost Juventus £33m back in 2001).

Despite spending some £15m on bringing Claudio Bravo to the Etihad, the Chile international has been less than convincing between the sticks in his debut season in England, with City conceding 38 goals in 36 games.

And with Joe Hart’s time in Manchester surely all but over, we wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Guardiola break the bank for one of the most exciting talents in world football.

The 18-year-old is yet to miss a minute in this year’s Serie A, and boasts 11 clean sheets, that’s five more than Bravo has managed this season.

And he’s now just 6/4 to make Man City his next port of call – that’s shorter than he’s ever been to move to the blue half of Manchester.

The Citizens could face stiff competition from their city neighbours though, with 7/2 on offer for Donnarumma to move from the San Siro to Old Trafford.

Those odds could all change though when the season ends, depending on whether or not Real Madrid make a move for current United shotstopper, David De Gea.

Were Los Blancos to do that, you can expect that 7/2 on Donnarumma signing for the Red Devils to fall substantially.

However, Zinedine Zidane’s side are 9/1 outsiders to take the Milan goalkeeper to the Bernabeu, and as far as our odds-compilers are concerned this is a battle between the two Manchester outfits.

But where do you think the youngster should go? Perhaps you reckon he’d be best off staying put for the time being…
