Man City are closing in on huge £65m deal for Monaco star Silva

Manchester City are about to make a major statement this weekend, with Pep Guardiola about to sign Monaco star Bernardo Silva.

Reports today claim the Portuguese forward has flown to Manchester for talks with the Citizens, who are set to spend big this summer.

Silva is valued at £21m by transfermarkt.co.uk and still has three years to run on his current contract.

The 22-year-old winger is set to sign a deal for around £65m.

That fee would smash City’s current record transfer, which stands at £54m for Kevin de Bruyne.

Silva has starred for Monaco this season, scoring eight times in addition to 11 assists in Ligue 1 as the Principality outfit landed their first title in 17 years.

He has only been with the side for two years, after joining from Benfica in 2015.

The forward has made 12 appearances for his country since then, but was not a part of the side which won last year’s European Championships.

It’s been widely discussed this year just how many players Monaco will lose this summer.

Reports also claim that City are lining up a move for Silva’s team-mate Benjamin Mendy.

The Citizens are certainly entering a new era, with several former first-team regulars leaving the club.

Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta, Jesus Navas and Willy Caballero have all left.
