Look away now Hull fans, Watford could offer your boss Silva lining

Published:

He may have only just arrived at the KCOM Stadium, but the latest odds are suggesting Marco Silva’s time with Hull City could soon be over.

The Portuguese boss has certainly turned heads in the last five months, but failed to keep the Tigers in the Premier League.

Plenty will say Silva was always fighting a losing battle, yet he still recorded some pretty impressive wins while bringing some marquee names in on short-term deals.

And following yesterday’s announcement from Watford chiefs that Walter Mazzarri won’t be in charge next season, we’ve seen plenty of money placed on the Hull gaffer taking over at Vicarage Road.

Despite the market opening late yesterday afternoon, Silva’s odds have been cut substantially from 9/1 into just 5/2 – and we’re expecting that price to fall even further over the coming days.

Leonid Slutsky is the 2/1 favourite for the soon-to-be vacant post, while Claudio Ranieri is next in the running at 9/4, but we reckon the real value lies with Silva.

The Championship will prove a tough test for the former Olympiacos boss – and there may not be all that much in the way of transfer funds for Silva to play with – not to mention the likeliness of him being able to persuade top players to spend at least a season in the second tier of English football.

Throw into the mix the fact that Premier League clubs will look to raid his ranks, meaning he could lose the likes of Andy Robertson and Harry Maguire, and the chances of him staying on at the KCOM look increasingly slim.

And in Watford, there’s an opportunity for him to remain a top-flight manager.

The question is: will he take it?

What do you think? Can Hull supporters see Silva hanging around, and do fans of the Hornets think he’d be a good fit?
