La Liga clubs queuing up to end Lucas Perez’s Arsenal nightmare

Let’s be honest, most of us weren’t expecting a lot when Arsenal signed Lucas Perez last summer.
It all stank a bit too much of a club buying a player for the sake of it, and as expected, the move hasn’t worked out.
Perez has actually looked pretty handy in a red shirt, it’s just that Arsene Wenger hasn’t given the Spaniard an opportunity to shine.
The Spaniard’s stats read eight goals and six assists from just 22 appearances this season, and whichever way you look at it, that’s a decent haul.
But Perez has been given just two Premier League starts by the Gunners, while injuries haven’t helped either.
And with a place in Spain’s World Cup squad to aim for next season, the striker can’t afford to spend another year on the bench.
Arsenal shelled out £17m to sign Perez from Deportivo last summer, and the A Coruna outfit are reportedly keen on bringing their home-town boy back.
After Perez fired in 17 goals for Depor last season, they’ve failed to replace the forward but results last weekend did all-but ensure their survival in the top-flight for another year.
But the latest claims suggest Espanyol are also now in the mix.
The Barcelona outfit have proved to be a stable mid-table operation under Quique Sanchez Flores this term, and the opportunity to move to the Catalan-based club may just tempt Perez.
Whatever the talented Spaniard chooses to do, it seems highly unlikely that he will be an Arsenal player next season.
