Jack Ross named Ladbrokes Championship Manager of the Month

St Mirren manager Jack Ross has won the Ladbrokes Championship Manager of the Month award for April.

The Buddies chalked up 11 points from six games during the period, a feat which helped the Paisley club secure their second-tier status – something that looked very unlikely before the month began.

Ross’ side kicked off April with a 6-2 demolition of Ayr United at the Paisley 2020 Stadium, the first time the Buddies had scored six goals in a game since January 2011.

That was followed by a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Dumbarton, and a 4-1 win against Greenock Morton at Cappielow, their biggest margin of victory over the Ton since 1999.

An impressive 2-2 draw at Falkirk came next, with Rory Loy and Stephen McGinn netting for the Buddies. And they were unfortunate to be edged out 3-2 at Tannadice in the following game.

But the Paisley outfit returned to winning ways in a crucial six-pointer against relegation-threatened Raith Rovers, dispatching John Hughes’ side 5-0, in a thoroughly dominant display.

Ross’ ability to galvanise a side who seemed relegation certainties at one point has been quite incredible, and tactically, the Buddies now have a high-intensity game which is paying real dividends.

So it’s no surprise to see their gaffer pick up the managerial gong for the second successive month.

Saturday’s draw with Hibernian ensured survival for another season, and having taken 22 points since the beginning of March, who knows what they can achieve next term…
