ITV Racing Tips: Rhododendron has to be backed for 1000 Guineas

It’s all back to HQ for the second installment of this weekend’s double dose of Classic action. The 1000 Guineas is the highlight from Newmarket and we’re going back in for more.

Churchill put on a scintillating display to land the 2000 Guineas while yesterday’s NAP Seventh Heaven duly obliged when landing the Jockey Club Stakes.

And we’re anticipating more big race success for record breaking trainer Aidan O’Brien.

The ITV Racing cameras will show six live races this Sunday with four contests coming your way from East Anglia and two from north of the border at Hamilton.

Here’s how we’re calling the action…

NAP – Rhododendron – 15:35 Newmarket

This might not be an original selection but we just can’t see past another Aidan O’Brien win in the 1000 Guineas.

Rhododendron has the best form in the race, a course and distance win in last year’s Fillie’s Mile in the book and the only question marks surround how she’ll cope during this first run of the new campaign.

However, given her trainer’s background and expertise in preparing his charges for such tests there shouldn’t be a need to worry.

Son Joseph will saddle Intricately, a filly we rate as a greater danger than recent trial first and second Hydrangea and Winter.

Meanwhile, Daban was taking in the Nell Gwyn Stakes but unlike our tip for the boys’ equivalent, we’re going with the jolly on this occasion.

NB – Dream Of Dreams – 14:05 Hamilton

We could easily make our NAP and NB selections interchangeable such are the strong claims held by both.

This is a fascinating sprint and one in which Dream Of Dreams should have the measure of a small field.

The Kevin Ryan-trained three-year-old finished behind the re-opposing Sutter County on debut but since then has developed into a smart type and we reckon there’s more to come.

Equimou signed-off last season with a respectable run in a Group 2 contest and wasn’t a million miles away when re-appearing at Bath last month.

But our selection should have more than enough to deal with any challenge that comes his way.

Lively Longshot – Eastern Impact – 14:55 Newmarket

If you’re looking for a spot of value then 2015 renewal winner Eastern Impact could well have you in clover at HQ.

Richard Fahey’s six-year-old won this contest off 2lb higher and while last year’s form was hardly breathtaking his solid third on the All-Weather last time out hinted that there’s still plenty there to cling onto.

Gunmetal rates as a progressive threat while Projection and Captain Colby also have to be respected.

But if our pick can make the most of his draw don’t be surprised to see him at least hit the frame.

ITV Racing Tips:

13:50 Newmarket – Mainstream

14:05 Hamilton – Dream Of Dreams

14:20 Newmarket – Somehow

14:35 Hamilton – Renfrew Street

14:55 Newmarket – Eastern Impact EW

15:35 Newmarket – Rhododendron
