ITV Racing Tips: DC set to shake off bridesmaid tag at Haydock

Terrestrial viewers will be treated to a bumper afternoon of racing this Saturday with no fewer than eight races set to feature.

The ITV Racing cameras will be taking in action from Goodwood, Haydock and York with the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes and Temple Stakes headlining.

We’ve taken a look at those two contests from Merseyside and the rest of the card below.

And here’s what we’re tipping up…

NAP – Washington DC – 16:05 Haydock

He’s not been an easy horse to keep the faith with but Washington DC looks set to finally reward his backers in style.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained favourite was a narrow second in the Palace House Stakes last time out with only Prix de l’Abbaye conqueror Marsha in front once again.

This son of Zoffany did justify favouritism at Navan in April though and we’re backing him to turn the tables on last season’s Sandy Lane Stakes, Commonwealth Cup and Sprint Cup heroine, Quiet Reflection.

Karl Burke’s filly is difficult to oppose but with her trainer set to make a very late call on her participation, and a preference for ease in the ground, we’re ready to take her on.

DC has been the bridesmaid on far too many occasions throughout his career. But this time the four-year-old will get his big moment in the sun.

NB – East Street Revue – 15:50 York

This is a typically hot sprint handicap with cases to be made for a few of the intended runners.

However, the progressive East Street Revue is the one we’re prepared to throw our weight behind with last August’s course and distance win in front of the re-opposing Love On The Rocks one of the most eye-catching pieces of form.

Granted, Tim Easterby’s charge is now 10lb higher in the handicap but we fancy another big run on this return to the minimum trip.

Lively Longshot – Poet’s Vanity – 15:30 Haydock

Harry Angel looks the one to beat here with his second when conceding weight all round at Ascot a decent effort on his seasonal reappearance.

But at odds-on he’s not the one for us and we’re looking elsewhere.

Second Thought has been hugely impressive on the All-Weather but will need to fine more on Turf while Mubtasim was behind the jolly in Berkshire and it doesn’t look like William Haggas’ runner will turn the tables.

Therefore, Poet’s Vanity is the alternative on her first attempt over six furlongs.

She’s a keen sort, as shown when eventually weakening to finish seventh in the Guineas, and this new trip could be just the ticket for our sparky selection.
