Is this the news Everton fans have been dying to hear?

| 17.05.2017

Forget the speculation surrounding Ross Barkley’s contract stalls. Forget the rumoured interest from a whole host of Premier League outfits for his signature. This may be the confirmation Everton fans have been desperate to hear…

The England international is set to play a huge part in a scheduled 2017-18 kit launch for the Toffees this week.

Would he do that if he was about to pack his bags?

We don’t think so.

It’ll come as music to the ears of supporters on Merseyside, as they prepare for another crack at breaking into the top six next season.

Ronald Koeman’s men have managed some incredible results this season, but inconsistency has been a thorn in the side all year.

A 4-0 demolition job over Manchester City came just after a disappointing 2-2 draw with Hull City. A 2-1 victory against Arsenal back in December was another standout performance from the Toffees, but it also ended a run of five games without a win, and was followed up with a defeat to Liverpool at Goodison Park.

While much of the attention in the press has been on the future of leading goalscorer Romelu Lukaku, Barkley has also proved his worth this season, registering five goals and nine assists.

And while a winner against Watford last time out looked to be one of the 23-year-old’s parting gifts, it now appears more of a sign of things to come in the future.

Koeman had gone on record in saying the midfielder has one week to decide his future.

That was six days ago.

The latest news suggests Barkley’s mind is very much made up, but how do fans feel?
