Have Atletico Madrid found Griezmann replacement in Leicester City ace?

Jamie Vardy - Leicester City

So often is it the case that players overseas attract the interest of English clubs that it almost comes as a surprise when it’s the other way around.

But that’s exactly what’s happened with talk of a match between Atletico Madrid and Jamie Vardy.

And if the latest rumours are to be believed, Atleti boss Diego Simeone will make the Leicester City and England star his number one target when the transfer window opens in the summer.

The odds certainly support that too, with the La Liga giants now as short as 7/2 to sign the former Stocksbridge Park Steels man.

Vardy move good news for Man United fans

Manchester United have long been linked with a move for Atletico’s Antoine Griezmann, who netted his 26th goal of the season last night against local rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League.

And reports linking Vardy with a move to the Spanish capital can only mean one thing – he’ll be Griezmann’s replacement at the Vicente Calderon.

Granted, the Frenchman’s boots are big ones to fill but as we’ve seen over the last few years, Vardy relishes the opportunity to impress at the highest level.

Despite struggling to get going in the first half of this Premier League campaign, the Leicester City forward has still managed to net an impressive 15 goals in all competitions, including a strike against Atletico in the 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium last month.

According to transfermarkt.co.uk, Vardy’s value right now stands at £12.75m. Arsenal were close to sealing a deal for the striker last summer thought to be in the region of £25m, and while it’s unlikely Madrid would have to part ways with that much, a deal could be struck for somewhere in the middle of those two figures.

What do fans think? Would a move to Spain suit Vardy’s game? Let us know in the comments section below!
